Minnesota Oncology & Ridgeview Cancer & Infusion Center Welcomes New Provider

{image_1}Minnesota Oncology & Ridgeview Cancer & Infusion Center is pleased to introduce our newest provider, Jayanthi Vijayakumar, MD.

Dr. Vijayakumar received her medical degree from Coimbatore Medical College in India. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY.  Prior to starting her residency, Dr. Vijayakumar, earned a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI.  Dr. Vijayakumar recently completed a fellowship program at the University of Minnesota.

During her residency, Dr. Vijayakumar was involved in several different research projects such as long term incidence of infections in bone marrow transplant recipients and role of metformin in the treatment of malignant melanoma. As part of her Master’s program she worked on research examining the efficacy of various therapies for smoldering multiple myeloma.

Dr. Vijayakumar’s areas of special interest include breast cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, Multiple Myeloma, and lymphoma.

“Complex medical problems such as cancer can overwhelm patients and their families,” says Dr. Vijayakumar. “I strive to educate my patients on their medical problems and help them make medical decisions based on current evidence from science and literature. I hope to be a part of their care team providing both medical and emotional support to both the patient and their families.”

When she is not working, Dr. Vijayamuar enjoys cooking and painting with her daughter. She also has a passion for Indian classical dance.
